A 666-Character Review of ‘The Inhabitants’

The Inhabitants tells the story of a young couple, their bed & breakfast, and the witch’s ghost haunting it. The film is fairly by-the-books, checking a lot of the haunted house genre’s boxes as it goes. In that regard it’s solid. But it’s made less enjoyable by protagonists you never really root for, and two elements tacked onto the familiar plot that don’t work well. A very specific witch mythos pushes the plot, but doesn’t get the exposition it needs. And there’s a voyeuristic tone set by the camera work, and a spycam setup left behind by the previous owners. Both have the potential to add something interesting, but just don’t. Problems aside, the film moves at a steady but slow pace, and has some effective scares and a cohesive style, which served to make the movie a bit more enjoyable for me.
