A 666-Character Review of ‘The Guilty’

The Guilty is a Danish dramatic thriller that operates on minimal sets and cast. Jakob Cedergren plays Asger, a cop on desk duty who is pretty much the only actor we see, and his performance takes what could be a bland film into an anxiety-inducer. The plot twists and turns (stop trying to figure it out before you get there; just go along for the ride), the character development is realistic and gripping. The sound design makes a film you need to see in the theater.

This film manages to touch on politically relevant topics; when I think of Denmark, I don’t think of protest-worthy police action (avoiding spoilers here). For fans of 911 calls and Law & Order.

The Guilty screened as part of Telluride Horror Show 2018.
