A 666-Character Review of ‘The Gracefield Incident’

The Gracefield Incident is filled with twists, but its multiple threads don’t create a satisfying story.

The found-footage film starts strong. The main characters—Matthew Donovan, played by Mathieu Ratthe who also is Gracefield‘s director and writer, and Jessica Donovan, played by Kimberly Laferriere — get in a car crash.

This trauma changes their lives and takes one of Matthew’s eyes. Once the couple begins to heal—and Matthew replaces his non-seeing eye with an eye-like camera—they and some friends head to a vacationing rich man’s compound for a calm weekend.

At first, the film holds tension by depicting a series of out-of-this world events. The film’s menace is a mystery and affects the group in creepy ways. However, once we see the well-crafted “monster”, the story becomes disorganized.
