A 666-Character Review of ‘The Gift (2015)’

The Gift is a slow, graceful fall down a full flight of stairs. Knowing it only gets more painful as time passes, but without sacrificing an ounce of beauty. Admittedly, this is not a blood & guts horror film, but there is suffering on screen. A very brave role for Jason Bateman. Other than his directorial Bad Words, his aura is overwhelmingly positive. This is a different story. Gordo (the weirdo) played by director Joel Edgerton, is a very complex character, balancing expectation while still leaving scraps blowing in the back our minds whispering…maybe? Rebecca Hall is the dread-glue that holds this film together. A dark suspense I can really get behind.
