A 666-Character Review Of ‘Still/Born’

Still/Born premiered at The Overlook Film Festival last week, and by the time the festival ended it was an audience darling and awarded the official title “Scariest Film” of the festival. Directed by Brandon Christensen and co-written by Christensen & Colin Minihan (Grave Encounters 1 & 2), Still/Born opens with Mary (Christie Burke) giving birth to twins, only one of whom survives. Mary quickly finds the surviving baby caught in an increasingly aggressive series of strange events. The film hits terrifying notes, splitting its time between effective jump scares and chronic paranoia and dread. Few recent films have struck this balance so deftly–kudos to Christensen.
