A 666-Character Review of ‘Slither’

Possessive husband Grant Grant experiences disturbing physical changes after he is stabbed by a creature from a meteor. James Gunn takes genre tropes from body horror and alien films with a liberal dose of Troma grossness and combines them to make something more irreverent and weird. Grant’s transformation throughout the film gets more and more grotesque as it goes on until he’s something entirely different from human. The practical effects hold up well, but the CG effects, especially with the worms, do not. The story boils down to an abusive husband trying to get revenge on the wife he believes betrayed him. It’s a little different when he looks more like a squid and infects most of the townspeople with his alien consciousness. Slither is a wild ride that takes body horror to the extreme.
