A 666-Character Review of ‘Rubber’ (2010)

No one expects a lot out of a movie that’s about a homicidal car tire that learns it can kill animals and people via paranormal, psychic vibrations. And that’s most likely why Rubber kind of works. The tire’s kills (yes, I realize how incredibly strange that reads) are quite creative, fun, and gory. However, the film falls a bit flat whenever its characters reference the ridiculousness of this film’s plot and very existence. Self references aside, the film is enjoyable. The dialogue is quirky and quite funny in many places. And who could have guessed that a tire could emote so well; we know when it feels joy, disdain, lust, and, of course, murderous rage.
