A 666-Character Review of ‘Revenge’

Jennifer goes on romantic weekend getaway with her boyfriend Richard. Things don’t go as planned when a shocking chain of events leaves her impaled and left for dead. Revenge is a tense film that elevates the rape revenge subgenre. The beginning has numerous details between Jennifer, Richard, and his friends that capture how women try to protect themselves in socially acceptable ways and how men can continually violate women’s boundaries before an assault even takes place. Considering the two sides, Jennifer is at a huge disadvantage, but the men underestimate her based on their misogynist views. The film has suspense, tons of blood, and glorious moments of triumph. Revenge accurately portrays women’s experiences and avoids the exploitation aspect typical in rape revenge films.

Revenge screened as part of What the Fest!? 2018.
