A 666-Character Review of ‘Possum’

Possum is a very interesting movie. Forgoing a typical narrative story, it’s nearly entirely visual with few lines of dialogue being delivered via narrated poetry. It’s a film that tests one’s patience to the extreme. As a fan of slow burns, this “No Burn” approach left me a bit frustrated and unable to fully connect. However, the individual aspects were quite delightful. From it’s gorgeous imagery and cinematography, to the haunting and anxiety-inducing musical score, the technical achievements can’t be overlooked. There is a puppet that is terrifying while laying motionless, but loses a bit of its creep factor when animated. I can’t give it a full recommendation; but if you’re up for a challenge to test your art-house appreciation levels, grab a cup of coffee (or two), and give it a go.

Possum screened as part of Telluride Horror Show 2018.
