A 666-Character Review of ‘Our House’

Our House is the full-length directorial debut from Anthony Scott Burns (Holidays), distributed by IFC Midnight. Starring Thomas Mann (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Percy Hynes White (Rupture) and 10-year old Kate Moyer, the young cast delivers flawlessly organic performances. This “be careful what you wish for” paranormal thriller reminiscent of Insidious isn’t reinventing the wheel by any means, but the plot creates an investment in the well-being of the characters by the viewer. It could have easily fallen down the hacker/edgelord rabbit hole that is currently a trend in the genre, but its focus on an emotional family crisis saves it from that soon-to-be dated categorization. A dramatic popcorn movie that does everything right, I expect this to be in my best-of year-end list.

Our House was screened as party of the Fantasia International Film Festival ’18
