Summer ’87. Earth finds itself in the tail of a rogue comet for 8 days, 5 hours, 29 minutes, and 23 seconds. During this time, it’s discovered that all machines now have a murderous mind of their own. This (literally) cocaine-fueled thrill ride is widely regarded as the worst Steven King adaptation (also the only one that Steve directed himself). A film that King can’t even remember making. Fortunately I remember this film well; my first viewing on a Friday night with both my Mother and Joe Bob Briggs. I’m going to be honest with you…Maximum Overdrive IS dumb. It doesn’t make a lick of sense. But if you embrace that early on and fill your couch, it’s fun.
