Roddy McDowall+classic Richard Matheson horror story = unbeatable. The classic haunted house tale follows a physicist, his wife, a young psychic, and a man who previously survived a stay at Hell House (he was the only survivor). An elderly, wealthy man offers each of them a large sum of money to prove the existence of life after death by gathering evidence from the infamous and dangerous house. Plenty of scares and much more scandalous content than a ‘PG’ of 2015 would allow make the movie fun, but the plot and Matheson’s ability to tap into our most basic fears transform a fun haunted house flick into a high quality, timeless horror film.
