A 666-Character Review of Hulu’s ‘Into the Dark: The Body’

Hulu is introducing a new Jason Blum-produced anthology series on October 5th. This series will include feature-length installments, coming in once a month for an entire year. Each episode will be related to a holiday within its release month. Obviously, October 5th’s is going to be a Halloween installment to kick things off.

It’s a common conversation amongst young kids, or maybe, myself and group of friends are just really weird. Speculation on how to get away with a crime, naturally, occuring on Halloween. Think about it; everyone is dressed up in costume either masking their identity or covered in fake blood. The first episode of Into the Dark is exactly that. A hired hitman dragging a body around town, being mistook for a man in costume with a prop.

As someone who loves anthologies, and themed horror, I was excited to check out this new series. Unfortunately, I was pretty let down. I don’t know if it was the setting, with LA lacking fall foliage & leaves turning pretty warm colors, but nothing about this felt like Halloween. Characters aren’t really dressed up in costumes, and the parties they attend feel like regular dance clubs, not Halloween parties. There is a lot of light hearted comedy that fell flat for me. At just under 90 minutes, there are definitely some areas that seemed to drag. Overall, this was a miss; but I’m still excited to check out what next month’s Thanksgiving episode has to offer.
