House of Wax is a 2005 horror film that does both everything right, and everything wrong all at the same time. It uses the most cliche horror tropes, has characters that are so flat and stereotypical they feel like cartoon characters, and includes some of the worst hard rock/nu metal songs as part of it’s soundtrack. Combine that with the sweatsuits, baggy clothes, and T9 texting era phones, and you get a very, very early/mid 2000’s movie. With all that being said…this movie rules. The kills are super gory and not filled with CGI. It’s super dumb, yet highly fun and entertaining the entire time. It has a vibe that is very of the time, that modern films lack. Highly recommended.
