A 666-Character Review of ‘Hereditary’

Nope, you’ll find no plot details here. That said, I hate to perpetuate the hype, but viewers definitely don’t know what they’re getting into. In a world full of Wan-re (you know…James Wan-esque haunting monotony? …feel free to use that….), this is something honestly shocking, yet commandingly controlled. Heavy, but its burden shared equally by the entire cast. Dir. Ari Aster’s feature debut does X a number of profound terror boxes, and does so in calligraphy. Throughout its two-hour runtime, I experienced moments so tense (assisted by Colin Stetson’s unyielding score), it felt as if Hereditary had me tightly by the throat. This is cinematic anaphylaxis.
