A 666-Character Review of ‘Heathers’
A great ‘80s take on “be careful what you wish for,” Heathers follows Veronica Sawyer, a wise-beyond-her-years high schooler, as she navigates the typical stresses of catty teenage girls and a homicidal weirdo boyfriend. Not wanting to deal with her school’s queen bees, Sawyer (played by Winona Ryder) enlists the help of her romantic interest J.D. (Christian Slater) to play a prank on Heather #1. When the joke goes south, Veronica reluctantly continues on a murderous spree before ultimately facing her inner (and outer) demons head on. The use of dark humor and heavy sarcasm paints this with stark contrast to the John Hughes dramadies of the decade. How very.
