A 666-Character Review of ‘Dying Breed’

I’m a sucker for any horror movie with its roots in reality. The story of real life cannibal and escaped convict Alexander Pearce, aka Pieman, makes for some very solid roots. Add some fabulous Australian accents, Leigh Whannell among them, and a creepy Hills-Have-Eyes vibe, and you end up with a damn enjoyable horror film called Dying Breed. The movie follows two couples who venture up the Pieman River and into the Tasmanian wilds to find the supposedly-extinct Tasmanian Tiger. Little do they know, these tigers are far from the most dangerous creatures that lurk in the woods. This film is absolutely one of my favorite of the After Dark Horrorfest collection – I recommend you check it out for yourself. Fun fact: the poster was actually banned in Australia because it was deemed too gruesome.
