A 666-Character Review of ‘Desolation’

As if I needed any more reasons to never go camping, Desolation spins yet another cautionary tale about the dangers of stranding yourself in the middle of the woods with no transportation or means of defense. Go figure. Despite strong performances from our frantic campers, I found myself underwhelmed by the lackluster antagonist. This Dave Grohl look-alike with his baggy clothes, walking stick, and inexplicable use of sunglasses at night did little to terrify me.  Even the inevitable showdown between hikers and bad guy was disappointingly anticlimactic. Although I had few qualms with the overall execution, I needed something more original about the storyline in order to separate this survival flick from the many others like it. In this way, Desolation unfortunately fell flat for me.
