A 666-Character Review of ‘Dawn of the Dead’ (2004)

Release Date
March 19, 2004
DIRECTED BY
Zack Snyder
WRITTEN BY
James Gunn & George A. Romero

Quite possibly one of the best horror remakes ever, George Romero handed the reins over to Zack Snyder for this fresh take on the 1978 zombie classic. The impressive ensemble is partially comprised of then-future TV stars: Jake Weber before “Medium,” Ty Burrell before “Modern Family,” Michael Kelly before “House of Cards.” Standout performances from Ving Rhames, Sarah Polley, and Mekhi Phifer, paired with solid set design & Snyder’s signature directing, elevate this from a haphazard rehash to an intense update. With a now-nostalgic 2004-relevant soundtrack & a found footage ending throughout the credits, this should be a fave of zombie lovers. THE DOG LIVES!
