A 666-Character Review Of ‘Carnage Park’

Carnage Park is a bleak, nihilistic homage to the glory days of grindhouse cinema. After a bank robbery goes wrong, the getaway goes even worse. It’s an atmospheric survival story, decidedly harsh and meticulously crafted. It’s what one would expect when they hear Mickey Keating made a grindhouse flick. Ultimately that’s what this is, a genre film. But it’s also distinctly a Keating film. This is most seen in the strong direction, cinematography, and editing. Stars Ashley Bell, Pat Healy, and Alan Ruck all give spectacular performances in bringing to life this horrific game of cat-and-mouse. While the film has some issues (one final act sequence comes to mind), it’s still a solid effort, and holds tight to the ominous opening words of Wyatt Moss. “Out here, God don’t pick no favorites.”
