A 666-Character Review of ‘Black Rock’

I love Kate Bosworth (I’ll admit it-Blue Crush was one of my teenage favorites), but what really intrigued me about Black Rock was star/director Kate Aselton. Though female horror directors aren’t as rare as they once were, they’re still fighting for a voice a historically-male industry. With her sophomore directorial work (her first was drama Freebie), Aselton pays homage to Deliverance with a twist. Watching our three heroines-Abby, Lou, & Sarah-I was impressed by the line walked between ditzy, helpless females (Muck) & unrealistically resilient ones (Preservation). I believed these were normal women, trying to survive a horrific situation. Watch this one.
