A 666-Character Review Of ‘Are We Not Cats’

When just about everything Eli has slips through his fingers, he moves into the only thing he has left: his dad’s old moving truck. Are We Not Cats is a feature length expansion of writer/director Xander Robin’s 2013 short film of the same name. It’s a visually stunning piece, with a strong sense of color and framing, and a curiously matching soundtrack. The story itself is rather simple, but manages to engage all the same. In truth, it’s hard to classify the film as horror, there’s just so little of it. Rather, it mumbles through strife, romance, and peculiar addiction, taking until the very end for things to truly go sideways. The trichophagia may be too much for some, but those who can stomach it will be rewarded with a very unique film that oozes with artistry as it tells its unsettling story.
