A 666-Character Review of ‘Anna and the Apocalypse’

When you hear a film being described as a, “holiday, zombie version of a High-School Musical“…for some, it’s already steep uphill battle. And I would be lying if I didn’t anticipate the grade being a potential problem while waiting for the theater lights to dim, instrumental, seasonal songs quietly in the background. Every year it seems some director is brave enough for an attempt at elevating the exhausted genre of the living dead. A daunting task. But it didn’t take more than a few minutes until I was tapping my toes, smiling wide, fully onboard. Charming performances, well executed moments of gore, and some of the catchiest hooks in a genre film I can recall. You will grin, your eyes will get wet, and you’ll leave with a head full of earworms. This is absolutely a yearly December watcher.

Anna and the Apocalypse screened as part of Telluride Horror Show 2018.
