A 666-Character Review of ‘Deliver Us From Evil’

My hopes were high for this film. Director Scott Derrickson’s follow up to Sinister had potential: a writer/director with proven ability to genuinely scare an audience and an interesting story based on a real-life NYPD cop who spent years working on paranormal cases, some even with the famous Ed and Lorraine Warren. Unfortunately, the execution and acting were terrible. The script was unbearably cliche and supporting actor Joel McHale (Community) should feel abused – his comedic role in this movie revolved around some of the worst one-liners ever. There were a few scary moments, but the rest of the film left a lot of opportunity for greatness on the table.
